If one thing is certain right now, it’s that we MUST keep a solid stream of positivity going strong 24/7. Yes, IT IS HARD. Yes, it is heartbreaking to watch the statistics on the news. But guess what, you’re doing your part and that is ALL that matters right now!
SO… keeping the positivity going is the name of the game. We must keep ourselves active, our family active and stimulated, and we must find joy and light in every single day. And honestly, that doesn’t just go for the difficult times, that goes for every single day we live here on earth. Find something good in every day and keep the positivity flowing.
Positive thoughts generate positive feelings & give off positive vibes!
What keeps the vibe alive? Music and movement! It’s our life force and it’s what truly ignites us. Have you SEEN the videos swirling around on social media, YouTube, the news, etc? They’re incredible! Let me just share a few…
- Entire Brooklyn neighborhood sings “Juicy” by Biggie while on Coronavirus lock down
- Spanish police Singing and Dancing to Cheer up Neighbourhood on Coronavirus Lockdown
- Coronavirus outbreak: Italian residents join together to sing from balconies during lockdown
- San Jose mother starts neighborhood dance party to fight COVID-19 quarantine blues.
- Coronavirus: Germans sing Bella Ciao from rooftops in solidarity with Italy
Now yes, as the days go by and the state and Federal mandates keep changing, it’s growing increasingly hard to keep the positivity torch going strong but here’s what we know will help!
Music Helps Relieve Stress
For me, music has always been one of my top ‘go to’ stress relievers. My mood usually drives my music choice but during stressful times, I ALWAYS play upbeat, kickin’ tunes that get my positives vibes flowing.
While the effects of music on people are not fully understood, studies have shown that when you hear music to your liking, the brain actually releases a chemical called dopamine that has positive effects on your mood. Music has been proven to…
- Improve mood
- Reduce stress
- Lessen anxiety
- Increase physical activity
- Improve memory & cognitive function
- Provide comfort
Spotify literally has COVID-19 Quarantine Party playlists… check them out. Pandora has great music genre options and Alexa and Google can play anything under the sun for you so there are no excuses to fire up those tunes ya’ll. I can promise you it will make you feel loads better!
Movement Helps Keeps You Energized
So to go along with the music, let’s add the movement! We all know that keeping our body moving is essential to our health and well being. We also know that none of us have ever been in a situation quite like before so having to adapt to this ‘new normal’ is both interesting and challenging to say the least.
It’s essential that you keep your body moving and there are a million and a half ways to do that right now. Crank up the tunes and dance, that’s easy! Take the dog for a walk around the neighborhood. Use your driveway as a platform for setting up a sprint/plyometric routine. Steam a fitness class from Peloton… the list goes on.
Movement helps to…
- Reduce stress & anxiety
- Increase energy levels
- Improve oxygen flow to the brain
- Improves mood
- Promotes better sleep
- Combats health conditions
Check out our post from last week, 30-Minute @ Home Workouts To Keep You Moving. Remember to keep the movement going not only for yourself but also for the fam. Get the kids out there in the driveway doing circuits to some tunes. Have a dance party. Do a TikTok dance challenge (everyone’s doing it)! Just keep it moving and we stay positive. We WILL get through this and hopefully we’ll shape some new, healthy habits along this way.
