2 Keto-Friendly Smoothie Recipes You’ll Love

Keto, is it a fad or is it here to stay? Whether you’ve tried the ketogenic diet or not, one thing is certain, there’s absolutely no downside to trimming your carbs and sugar intake. In today’s post we share our two favorite, low-carb, low-sugar smoothie recipes. We hope you like them as much as we do!

Before we share our smoothie recipes, let’s take a minute to discuss keto. What is it and why do you want to consider lowering your intake of carbs and sugar on a regular basis? Fact, your body needs fuel to function and there are only two ways to fuel it. The body can burn sugar in the form of glucose for energy or it can burn fat in the form of ketones for energy.

If you think about your diet and your normal eating pattern, a lot of what you consume is likely higher in carbs and sugar than you’d expect. Gluten free breads or crackers are carbs, rice and quinoa are carbs, fresh fruit is sugar and carbs. It’s all around us even if it’s in the form of healthy, everyday foods. Your body will always process sugar as energy before processing stored fat because it’s more readily available. Converting sugar to energy is done by the release of insulin from your pancreas. The insulin helps to regulate your blood sugar levels but with too many carbs and sugar in your system, your body is on a constant rollercoaster ride. The pancreas is working overtime to create and release more insulin to balance the body, and unfortunately your body never gets to those stored fat cells for energy.

Fact, you’ll make yourself crazy if you overanalyze what you’re eating on a daily basis too much but it’s also good to be educated and mindful of how your body works and what it needs to flourish. Just be aware of finding balance each day. If you’d like to learn more about the keto diet, click here.

Here are a few tips for keeping it REAL:

  1. Watch your portions – portion control is key
  2. Try to snack less – if you do snack, keep them small and nutritious
  3. Lower your carbs and sugar intake
  4. Increase your healthy fats and clean proteins
  5. Consider intermittent fasting

I know some of you are green smoothie gurus and others lean toward a solid, berry-based smoothie so I thought I’d share a keto-friendly version of both. I always aim to please! As with all of our Blendtopia smoothies, I like to think of smoothies as a meal replacement. Both recipes will yield one, 18oz  smoothie, packed with rich veggies, healthy fats and nutrient-dense superfoods.
